Templemore Golf Club was founded almost forty four years ago in September 1971. The first 9 hole layout was formally measured and affiliated to the Golfing Union of Ireland in early 1974 measuring 4564 yards for the 18 holes, Par 66, Standard Scratch 61. The layout set in approximately 28 acres has been developed to its present length of 6320 yards, Par 71, SS. 71.
The 9 hole layout is flat and easy to get around, however, with the large amount of trees that line the fairways, water hazards and bunkers make it a stern challenge to the most competitive who play the course. It is believed the present par 71 layout which is in operation since 2005 has never been lowered in competitive golf.

During this period the Club functioned under three different Constitutions, the latest was adopted at the AGM in March 2000 which served the interests of the new owner, The Garda College Golf & Leisure Club and opened up the administration and the holding of Office to the wider membership under an annual licence from the owner. The Club continues to enjoy a great working relationship with the Garda College authorities
The Ladies were first to bring team success to the Club when two members won Munster and All- Ireland titles in the Huzzar Vodka Foursomes in 1987. The Club has gone on to win team successes in every decade since, the most significant being, the All-Ireland Independent Mixed Foursomes in 1999 and the Munster title in the Pierce Purcell Shield in 2000. Both the men’s and ladies’ club had their most recent team successes in 2011 by winning the Munster Country Clubs Cup for the fourth time and the ladies winning the All- Ireland Minor Cup.
Junior members are also catered for with a specific programme during the Summer and holiday periods where coaching is provided in the skills of the game and in the etiquette and rules of Golf. The Junior Officer and his committee see the development of young boys and girls as a vital lifeline to the growth and development of the Club in the future.
